I have a love/hate relationship with t-shirt dresses…
These days though, my love for them is strong. I used to never love the way they looked on me, but over the years, as I purchased several of them, I’ve realized that the simplicity of them makes them the perfect wardrobe staple.
The last time I actually wore a t-shirt dress was last year, documented in this post. And that little green t-shirt dress still gets worn to this day. The best part about the t-shirt dress is that they can really work for any type of occasion with just the change/addition of a few pieces. Here are some of the ways I love to style them…
How to Make the T-Shirt Dress Work for You:
- Work: I’ve worn this t-shirt dress at least once a week to the office since purchasing it. Since my office is more on the casual side I usually opt for a pair of flats. For a more conservative office though you could easily pair this dress with classic black pumps.
- Accessories: Since t-shirt dresses are incredibly simple pieces, the accessory options are endless. I’m not a huge accessory person, so for this look I kept it rather casual with a pair of hoop earrings and a purse in the perfect cognac color to add a little pop. If accessories are your thing though, go ahead and pile them on. Make this simple dress work for you!
- Transition to Fall: Another great thing about a t-shirt dress is that is easily works year round. It’s still hot here in Phoenix, so I kept the look more on the summer end of things, but this can quickly be changed to work for fall. A pair of booties or even over-the-knee boots (my personal fave) would look perfect paired with this t-shirt dress. Throw on a leather jacket for a bit of edge or keep is casual with a denim jacket.
- Easily go from day to night: With just a simple change of shoes and possibly a bag, a t-shirt dress is the perfect piece when you don’t have time to make a complete outfit change.
As far as fit goes with a t-shirt dress, there really is not much to it. I’d say keep it above the knees to avoid looking cut off. Other than though, it’s a pretty simple, straightforward piece.
