My obsession with cardigans has become real.
Specifically oversized cardigans. I previously dressed up an oversized cardigan in, How to Dress Up Your Cardigan. So, this time I wanted to keep it a little more casual. Paired with a pair of distressed denim and my favorite lace tank, it’s a casual look that is incredibly cozy, but still looks chic.
I realize oversized cardigans are not anything groundbreaking and I may actually be a bit behind here, but it’s still worth talking about. I mean, it’s a piece that probably isn’t going to go anywhere anytime soon. So let’s talk about styling them. If you are on the petite side, styling oversized cardigans can be a little rough. They can quickly overwhelm you and just as quickly err more on the side of sloppy than chic.
The easiest piece of advice I could give when styling an oversized cardigan, is to keep things simple. It’s meant to be comfy and cozy, so don’t over think the outfit too much. However, when you are putting together the look, make sure that what you are wearing underneath is a bit more fitted. When I dressed up my black cardigan, I styled it with a simple slip dress that was more fitted. For this casual look I stuck with a simple lace tank that is also fitted. If you are pairing the oversized cardigan with an already oversized outfit, it become a look that is too casual and too comfy. No longer causal and chic.
Lastly, make sure the fit is oversized, not just too big. This cardigan is simply oversized and the blouson sleeves really accentuate that. When the fit is just too big, it again, can look sloppy instead of just casual and cozy.
